Analogue temperature regulation is carried out using a potentiometer which can be used to set the temperature continuously in a range of 50 to 450 degrees Celsius. A green LED indicates the status of the regulation.

Weller WECP-20 TIP is ET-A — ET-S
The tip diameter is 0.8,1.2, 2.0, 2.4,3.2,4.6 or 5.6mm .
ET-S is 0.8mm, others go from ET-A to ET-H.

John from Holland asked cheaper PTC resistor, but I have not found.
It said that it is manufactured in Germany, but I have not found the place.

Then there is an adater from LT/ET. All LT-series tip will got to ET-series solder lin WECP-20.
This adapter costs about 20 euros. Tips cost about 5-7e.

My WECP-20 is working well, but if it will go break, I prepare a schematic diagram

24.9.2016 Well ,not any more. The tip stopped to heat. When I move the connetion to Weller, it started to work again.
I open the Weller and tried to find a bad connection, but I didn't find anything.
I put Weller back in service. Let see if it will do same again.
I took a picture and put on top of this page.

4.2.2021 happens two things.
My cheap Chinese solder iron stopped to work. It has heater welder open.
I do not have welder and took my Weller WCEP-20 to use.

It started to heat, but just a little.
I was wondering what has happened?

I open the welder case and measure heater voltages.
The 5V regulator gives 6.4V as it should,

The opamp LM358 was working.
The - input pin 2 was 1,554V and + input pin 3 was 1.547V.

The output pin 1 was 4.6V when the heater was off and 0.03V when the heater was on.

I try to increase the pot P2, but it was already 0 ohms.
I try decrease P1, but it helped only little.

I try to decrease R7 (4.02) resistor, but it needed more soldering equipment.
I went to sleep and in the morning I went to my garage to search more Weller and I wound WTCPS-S soldering iron.

I changed R7 to 4.02k // 4.02k resistor i.e. 2k, no help
Then I added on R7 1k resistor, it helped a little.

Then I put R8 3.58k on top 2.2k it helped a quite much.
The solder iron worked just when I put heater to top maximum.

I do my work now and return to this later

The Weller has been working well after repair. but I have bought many Chinese soldiers
I also bought separate heater resistors and I have used them.

This solder cost 7 e + 2.2e for the postage at AliExpress.
It has no isolation transformer and not the holder.

In 23.2.2023 one French engineer write to me and asked help to made Wecp-20 PCB board.

I have had this Vit Vaculik Eagle made files about ten years, but it doesn't was enough for him.

So I did a new schematic diagram so that better suits for PCB design. I did net list and open my WECP-20 tool and measure PCB size.

One Italian guy has a problem with 22 ohm PTC resistor
I try to explain how of it works

The PTC resistor changed its ohms value according the temperature from 25C to 400C from 22ohm to 400 ohms

Pins 2 and 3 should be about the same, when the PTC resistor has heated to right temperature.

But what is right temperature?
It depends the settings of P3 potentiometer,

It can change from 1,7V to 6.4V.
It means 100C to 400C.

The potentimeter setting is compared to PTC setiing with a amplifier IC2:b.
Then the output of the amplifier IC2:B is connected to Zerovolt Triac decoder SL443A.
It has 24VAC input to pin 2.
And 24V DC input to pin 3.
It had a DC control input at pin 8.

It has a waveform generator and zero voltage detector,
When the output (at the input pin 8) is high, the detector notes when the AC voltage is zero and gives a small pulse to Triac.
This pulse fires the Triac and heats full 50Hz cycle.

He has also a 5 pin heater connector ( female) broken.
He want to know were he can get them.
I looked my favorite electronic shop in Poland TME and found very cheap 5 pin female connector.

Weller WTCP-S Problen

At March 2024 I was doing my WIFI test circuit, but my Weller WTCP-S solder doesn't work.
I was thinking, that magnetic switch has worked out like about five years since.
I open the solder and using a small file I cleaned the switch.
I measured with ohm meter, that it should work.
However the solder doesn't work,
What is fault?

I measure that the power supply gives 24VAC and the magnetic switch was working.
Then I found the heater, which should has 12 ohm resistor was open.

I used the Internet, but the heater was not available in Finland.
I could buy the whole solder, but it will cost about 250 e.
I was looking the heater and found a small breakout in the heater wire.

I used normal 0.5mm thick wire and repair it.
It worked but let see how well.
The repair took much less money than buying a new solder.

The temperature adjustment is done with different heaters.
They are marked 5,6,7,8 and 9 .
They means 500.600,700,800 and 900 C.
